Artist Statement
I use ethereal watercolours and stylized images of flora and fauna to capture temporary thoughts and heavy emotions. Each subject is very personal, yet familiar enough that the viewer sees in it what he or she wants to see. Other media assist in adding luxurious visual & tactile interest: layers of torn paper, "3D" details that pop out from the image, and organic patterns traced with thick gel medium. Light reflects off of iridescent spray ink, paint soaks into paper, and stitched threads entice me to run my fingers over them. I wish to transform daily experiences and negative emotions into a visual banquet of colours and textures. To offset life's darkness, we must create beauty. |
