Thanks to everyone who came out to Art In The City! I got a crazy amount of doodling time in my sketchbook, which isn't the best paper to be using with watercolours. I spent two days with a Peerless booklet and I've come to the conclusion that they seem much more vibrant than Cotman colours. The pink and the yellow seem almost fluorescent though, so that might be skewing the results a little. The paper palettes don't last very long, so if they've got cakes available, I might have to check them out! ;)
My To-Do pile has mostly been sorted, so check out two new journals that will be available at THIS WEEKEND'S Art in the City event. The covers are nice laser prints of my artwork, bound with luscious St Armand paper. It's got this interesting texture, as the paper is made from recycled rags. Who knew that was a thing? Wow. Come feel the pages in person here: Art in the City - Studio Tour Where: Newton Cultural Centre - 13572 72nd ave - Surrey, BC When: Saturday & Sunday September 26/27 10am-4pm I will be there to show my brand new stuff and also providing a space to play with watercolour at your leisure! Come and make little trading cards using Peerless watercolours and simple patterns.
And of course, you can grab these journals ahead of time by clicking here. The upcoming Studio Tour calls for a couple of new journals to top off the supply I've had going. This new paper from St. Armand looks delish! It has shiny little bits here and there. According to the website, it's made from recycled rags and straw! Super interesting. Remember to come check it out in person!
Art In The City - Studio Tour September 26 & 27 Newton Cultural Centre 13530 72 Avenue Surrey, BC 1. Cycling to the lake - The lake is peaceful as all get out, and the storm has left the world smelling fresh and green. Piles of fallen trees and smashed power lines were quite a sight to see. I hate the hilly bits, but I admit that I feel less conflicted about drinking that sugary Iced Capp afterward! 2. Sweet sales at the craft store - I knew I was wise to hold off on buying new picture frames! Plus, with the super excellent coupons, there was no reason NOT to get some super pretty journaling cards. YAAASSSSSS! 3. Two hours of "Cry Plays 'Until Dawn'". I don't expect everyone to understand this one. I feel like there is a bajillion other more mundane things for which I'm grateful today, but have some shiny colours instead! BAM!
I've been so busy with work over the summer that I hadn't put a whole lot of thought into the upcoming Art in the City event! A big part of the event is that each artist offers a kind of demonstration. My plan is to encourage visitors to create their own tradeable art cards, since I personally value interactivity over just being watched. Don't you want to come out and test out some watercolours on little pieces of paper? The theme will be Patterns & Colours! The watercolours you will be trying out will be 8 colours of Peerless, which are a bit quirky! |
