On the west coast, we see a lot of rainy days. You can count on them 9 months out of the year. I used to be the type of kid who would play outside in any weather until one day, before we even had internet, I became such a homebody. Sketchbooks kept me so entertained when I was indoors. Drawing is a fun activity we can even do socially... good friends camped on the floor with pencil crayons in hand. Even as an adult we will occasionally have "playdates" like this. I think I'm long overdue.
Rainy Day is available here.
It's that time again and I love it. New journal session! This one is based on a recent journal page and contains "Natural" coloured Stonehenge paper, as usual.
This week is feeling very busy indeed, so here are a few photos from around the house. The calamondin tree is inside and already decorated with a tiny garland of red pompoms. I'm so happy that he has grown big and strong despite my complete black thumb.
It's halloween birthday cake week and as usual I am impatient to have it over with! Orange and black swirl sheet cake with chocolate ganache and painted marshmallow fondant. It should be good. The little pumpkins have chocolate stems!
Apart from slowly putting together a halloween birthday cake and still making it to work, we're also trying to finish painting the bathroom, AND I have a surprise questionnaire and a surprise adjudication today! Eek! I've been running around, framing art to run over to the gallery on the way to work this morning and am probably going to be right pooped this weekend. I'm itching itching itching to build four new art journals for the shop but they are just going to have to wait...
Listing things in the shop can become overwhelming and time consuming at times, so it is no surprise that a few things have been forgotten among the confusion. I found a small stack of paintings that I'd forgotten to list or just didn't because maybe I didn't think they were interesting enough! Some of them are listed at sale price because they feel more like "studies" to me. Clicking on an image will take you there, check it out :)
The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Make some noise.
I pretty much had the background done first and LOVED it, but then wasn't sure what to do with it. I threw a stellar jay on there because I saw one the other day and realize that this year was nearly empty of stellar jays. Either they've all carried on someplace else or they're being extraordinarily quiet this year.
I didn't quite finish a random painting today but I am pretty darn close... It's a bit similar to one of my journal pages. Guess which one!
So it is some kind of Thanksgiving holiday today in Canada, though we usually just see it as an opportunity to make a big turkey because everyone else is doing it! Woo! In between sanding and priming the bathroom, vacuuming and dusting the place, I added a few pieces to this painting and scrapbooked the last of the pre-summer photos. I got as far as stitching a fabric branch and placing a couple of sweet crows over top. I feel no more clear about where this one is going than I did when I started!
Hello! I'm Melissa, and here you'll find some behind-the-scenes footage of an artful life. Won't you join me?
