I paint sparingly. More than the average homebody, but not as much as a professional. I used to fill up sketchbooks like mad, in fierce competition to equally creative friends, yet lately I sometimes forget I even have a sketchbook. One journal page a week (for the video) is the current trend.
It's the creative fear. The fear that I'm going to waste a good idea by using it before I'm skilled enough. The fear of wasting supplies on something I don't think is good enough to sell. The fear of expanding this backlog of unappreciated and forgotten artwork. It's still there, picking away.
For the next little while, I'm going to put on my best poker face and create without fear. After all, photographers shoot a hundred photos if they want ten good ones, surely I will have to crank out several underdeveloped ideas just to find one that works.
Or, you know, I should use my sketchbook more often. Starting now.
