This month I had a particularly productive couple of weeks where I made use of every idea I could think of, hoping for a few hits among the misses. Here's a step-by-step of "Quail of my Dreams."
Sometimes I fixate on one section at a time, but this time I mixed colour everywhere in the first layer. For background colours, I mixed complementaries to make dingy looking colours, and just kept adding more and more combinations while the surface was still wet. Mostly red, green and blue.
Added details to the quail and a bit more blues/violets to the flowers.
More deep blue lines around the flowers! I painted his shimmery breast feathers with gold acrylic paint, here.
I cut out some flowers I was also painting on a separate scrap of paper, and glued them on with a piece of bookboard underneath to make them pop out. This quail is all dressed up, ready to go to the All Things exhibition!
Hello! I'm Melissa, and here you'll find some behind-the-scenes footage of an artful life. Won't you join me?
