This may seem redundant if you're a newsletter subscriber, but I've been way too focused on business, work, chores and party planning to paint these days. I'm still living the normal life here, folks! But here are two interesting surfaces waiting for paint.
First up is this old canvas which I have already painted on - twice. Never satisfied, I recoated this one in a layer of gesso and a layer of absorbent ground. I doubt I will be able to fully obscure the teal mica underneath and I'm not sure if I should even try or just leave it?
Those buttons are stuck on there forever and they are very cool! But how how how do I work around them? I haven't even thought of an idea yet! There's a show coming up calling for art featuring the flora/fauna of the west coast which is pretty relevant to my interests. I have no idea which flora/fauna to choose.
Now here is an old window, gifted to me by a local friend. I'm not sure what I was thinking taking this home. It's too heavy to easily hang on a wall, and.... it's transparent glass. It would have to be a pretty nice, non-distracting wall! This window sat in the trunk of my car for nearly a month until I had to bring it in (after some despidering - ack), and two months later it still sits in my living room waiting for me to strip the old paint.
My cat Maggie loves it, though. She's attracted to shiny things and this window is delightfully shiny to her. I've caught her gazing into it on many occasions! But I haven't painted it yet so...
Hello! I'm Melissa, and here you'll find some behind-the-scenes footage of an artful life. Won't you join me?
