Hi, I'm Melissa!
I'm a watercolour artist from Surrey, BC, who loves to paint plants and animals and things to capture and remind myself of the beauty of nature that many of us take for granted. Through art, we can tell our stories to connect with and inspire each other, no matter how small those stories may be.

From the Blog: Processing Loss with Art Journaling
"Recently on YouTube, I shared a video about processing loss though expressive art journaling.
So around New Year's Eve, I got word that my estranged dad passed away. We didn't really know each other, so I couldn't easily mourn him as a person. Rather, I was mourning a subconscious hope that things could be different. My plan was to get weepy with my art journal. Unfortunately, it was still holiday and I was busy unpacking from craft fairs and attending social gatherings so by the time I sat down to journal my deer, the urge had passed. Art journaling would not be as cathartic as I'd planned..."

If you don't know what Patreon is, it's a reliable website where people can pledge a little money toward their favourite creative people. On my page, I've turned it into a safe place where we can get together as a little private art club - sketching, sharing work, interacting more... I love posting videos on youtube, but the real rewarding part is the part where I get to meet like-minded people. It's hard to find close, artistic friends!
Q: What's in it for me?
It depends on which membership tier you join! So far we've got postings of sketches, photo references (you can use!), art prompts, real-time painting videos, printable "stickers", scavenger hunts, and possibly some original artwork mailed out to you! My favourite part is the community feed, where patrons (that's you!) are free to post their own drawings and have conversations. Of course, you are also free to follow along with the group in private.
Q: How much does it cost?
As little as a dollar! The rewards get better the more you pledge... but you don't have to commit forever. You can change and/or cancel your pledge at any time. Physical rewards are mailed out on the first of the month to coincide with completed payment (for example, February pledges are charged on the first of March, and so mailings go out that day).
